In 2012, it was announced that Rochdale Birch Hill hospital was set to closed completely as a medical facility for the final time. It brings to an end of a great change which began in the Victorian era. The building was originally a work house and has also served as a hospital which had been run down following a shift in patient care in 2001, and now, only one portion of Birch Hill remains in use.
